ABOUT the CLOVERDALE HORSESHOE CLUB
Here we offer information and a little history about our Club
The Cloverdale Horseshoe Club is a non profit horseshoe pitching club and a member of the B.C. Horseshoe Association since 1970. We are located next to the Cloverdale Exhibition grounds. Our log cabin completed in 1986 has a full kitchen and handicapped washroom. We have lots of parking available and 25 pits (including 15 covered ones).
Membership classes consist of Pee Wee, Junior boys, Junior girls, Ladies, Men's and Elders. The Cloverdale Horseshoe Club is also proud to host our School Program in the Spring and Fall each year. About 500 grade 11 and 12 PE students from five schools participate. During this time we offer an introduction to horseshoe pitching, enjoy mini tournaments and some have a BBQ.
The Cloverdale Horseshoe Club has hosted Championship Tournaments which include the BC Seniors Games, the Lower Mainland Championship, the BC Championships and the Western Classic. We also host four Open Tournaments and two member only tournaments each year.
Our Practice Nights are April to October, Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:45pm (unless it rains)
In the year 1965 a group of 6 pitchers formed an informal horseshoe club while playing by the Cloverdale fairgrounds barn where there were 2 pits. A few years later the informal club had a name "The Fraser Valley Horseshoe Club". later renamed "The Valley Horseshoe Club". Then came the lease of a property from the City of Surrey next to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. A small shack was built and the first clubhouse was born and served the Valley Horsehoe Club for many years. The reminents of the club outhouse is still visible beyond the 10 pits out back Then in 1985 the Club proposed a name change and in 1986 it was official and the "Cloverdale Horseshoe Club" was born. Also in 1985 the major undertaking of building the present clubhouse was started. The main building was completed in 1986 and the old clubhouse was taken down. Over the years many changes were made. a patio cover was built and more pits were added.
